What is Skand Shashti?
Skand Shashti (also known as Skanda Shashti) is observed on the Shashti (sixth day) of Shukla Paksha every month. It is dedicated to Lord Kartikeya(also known as Murugan, Skanda, Subramanya, or Kumara) — the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and the commander-in-chief of the divine army.
Significance
The most important Skand Shashti falls in the Tamil month of Aippasi (October–November), known as Soorasamharam, commemorating Lord Kartikeya's victory over the demon Surapadman. This festival is celebrated with great fervour in South Indian temples, especially the famous Thiruchendur Murugan Temple.
Lord Kartikeya represents valor, wisdom, and divine victory over evil. He is the planetary deity for Mars (Mangal), and worshipping him on Shashti is a powerful remedy for Mangal Dosha.
